Telling a JW that you are anti-watchtower.

the time has finally come.

i am getting dangerously close to a situation where i will have to reveal to my gf's mother and siblings that not only do i not share their beliefs but the probility of them converting me to their religion is next to none.

relaying this information could cause one hell of alot of problems with the situation as it satnds.. in my country which is mainly christian the the jws eventhough not accepted are permitted to continue with their faith.

I am not in your shoes, so I do not know your whole situation. But I have been in similiar situations as have others here. I would tell the witness what I felt. I felt the witness as a individual was a good person, but that was not my problem. My problem was with the society. I would show the witness some things that contradict what the society has done such as the UN issue and so I could not trust the society. If they are really persistent in questioning why you do not convert, then do some research. http://quotes.jehovahswitnesses.com is a great place to get watchtower quotes without commentary. Get some quotes from there and show this family this stuff. But ask them questions about this stuff so it gets them to think instead of trying to prove them wrong. Good luck.

Hello all, I am new here

i have been reading all the stuff i see on this place for a while.

i am a jehovahs witness in good standing in my congregation.

i just need to come on in here and ask for a little advice from anyone who might know what i am feeling.

You have 2 choices; stay with your girl and get out of the religion or leave the girl and stay with the religion. If you think the girl is worth it, get down and do some research on the WTS. Got My Invite Today

well i finally go my invitation to the ritual today.

i didn't know either of them but they had a nice smile and were dressed in the proper attire.

the invitation was a little less quality than usual, and said, "printed in the usa".

OK to study the Bible alone?

Escape by Metallica

as some of you already know, i'm a huge metallica fan, i'm not too crazy about the new stuff, but i like the older stuff up unitl about 91. many of metallica songs have a dark side to them; death, war,destruction, misplaced justice, etc.

one song that seems to stick out that one can relate to escaping the watchtower is "escape" on the "ride the lightning" album.

If people were to only study God by "Bible reading", would those people come to the same conclusions as the Governing Body of the witnesses? And I also ask why would God go through the trouble of just having a handful of people (gov. body)knowing the deeper things of the Bible, when the Bible was written for all men?

For some people, no matter what you do they will not get it. I had shown a witness once how the society has said they are prophets and with the information the witness agreed the society has said they are prophets. Then I showed this witness a handful of the false prohecies, I used 1914,1925 and 1975. So the society has mentioned they are prophets, but by looking at these prophecies that they made, all prophecies are false. I asked what does the Bible say about false prophets. The witness then took out the knowledge book
and told me that to understand the deeper things of the Bible we need guidance and with the knowledge book it gives us guidance about such things. I then said the Bible does not give any excuses for being a false prophet. If you make a prophecy(which the WTS has done countless times) and it is false; what do you get? A witness that will say the WTS is not a false prophet.

Kind of like telling an alcoholic that boozing is bad, think he will listen?

What Is Your Hope Now???

my hope for over 30 years was the same as many here on this site.

when i made my decesion to no longer me a jw at first i just figured that i was a goat and that i would just die at armageddon along with all the other wicked ones.

well after doing some research on the dubs and on religion in general i have come to some differnt conclusions about life,death and what might happen when you die.. i have to be honest and tell you that it has been difficult to accept the fact that any hope of any sort of life after death is very unfounded.. i have come to believe that religion is for people who cannot accept the only certainty we have in this life is that you are going to die.. my hope is that i can live this life and be able to raise my children up to be responsible and productive adults.

My hope is that I fall in favor with God's visible organization......not.
I don't believe in religion, I just believe in God. My hope is to find my meaning of life for now.

Wow, what a great response. Thank you everybody. Just to answer a few questions; yes I am a big fan of Metallica, but I like more of the older stuff. I have not sent any letters to society yet, but am working on a kick ass letter to them.

I have frequented this site quite a bit, but I now have finally joined. Since I seen many other people's posts I will tell
a little about myself. I grew up with my mother in the "truth" but my father was not. Even though I was dragged to
the hall until I was 13 I lived a relatively normal life having many "worldly" friends and playing many sports. The only time
I went to the hall was for funerals after I was about 13. When I entered university my mother fell ill and died within a year.
After her death I felt that I needed to find out about the truth, if it was right or what. So I started going to meetings with
my sister but I at the same time I was secretly researching about the watchtower from the internet, and the library. I also
used the kingdom hall to verify references I was given from the "apostates" on the web. It did not take very long to figure
out that this was not god's organization. It took awhile but I also helped my sister see the light. ( no, it was not new light)
Currently I am working on a letter to the society. I would really like to thank people like Randi, Bill Bowen, Quotes + Beans on this discussion forum and other people for the work they are doing. I look forward to hearing from everybody.
